Your friends want to go out tonight after work. You have to work late, and the restaurant is a fifteen minute drive from the office. There is no way you can rush all the way home to change and arrive before everyone else finishes dinner.
What’s a girl to do? This morning when you left for work, it was a chill fifty-eight degrees. By lunch, it’s in the seventies, and when you head for home, you’re freezing again. Your workplace demands conservative clothing. The restaurant is more fun and funky. There is no way you can dress for one without looking ridiculous for the other. Or can you?

Day-to-night wear isn’t rocket surgery. Here are some tricks to transform your office outfit into something more fun for evening.
Dark colors, especially black, are easiest for the transition. If you work in an office, a black, high-waisted pencil skirt with a simple button up is great. For evening, change your shirt to something more daring, or add bold accessories like over-sized rings and necklaces or chunky bracelets with fabulous earrings.
It you’re gearing up for a night on the town, jewelry can make all the difference. Say you’re day-time gig is really casual.

“With a more simple style you can wear jeans, a top, and heels,” said Emma Keller, an Auburn-based jewelry designer whose work is on etsy.com. “I’ll normally wear just my basic silver or gold hoops with something like that. For an evening look you can throw on something like the jade lariat.”
To jazz up an outfit, experiment with tights. Forget simple opaque black tights for this fall and try tights with diamonds, ribs, or lace patterns.

A few quick changes and Jill Pitman transforms her work- day wear into evening flair. She is an Auburn student and works at Private Gallery in Auburn.

For daytime, keep it simple with black pumps or flats. Save your bright, bold shoes for going out. They will make a dramatic statement and enliven any monochromatic outfit.
A pashmina, a type of shawl generally made from cashmere, is simple, practical, and adjustable for any occasion. You can start the morning wearing it, shove it in your purse when you head out at lunch, and pull it around you as a shawl, scarf, or wrap to complete an outfit in the evening.

“I like daytime wise to wear it as a scarf,” said Megan Sowell, manager of Private Gallery, 127 East Magnolia Ave, Auburn. “At night time I like to wrap it around my shoulders and tie it in a knot and it becomes like a wrap.”

One of the easiest day-to-night changes, and my favorite fixer-upper, is the simple application of bright lipstick and good mascara. For flawless fall lips, try a glamorous red, metallic purple, black cherry, or a bright pink. Check the mirror though first. Nothing says sexy like lipstick-stained teeth.
Elongated and thick eyelashes can make a big difference, too. The lash boost gives tired eyes the fresh look they need after a day spent staring at the computer screen.
Instead of being late for girls’ night out, stock up on the basics and toss them in your bag before work. Accessories and a little lipstick go a long way.
